Let's begin with a pictorial introduction of
Shang Palace in Shangrila's Tanjung Aru Resort and Spa!

I've always had a preference of sitting in a dining area
with natural lighting. Their main dining area is carpeted and is very spacious.

I guess I'm still very much an old-romantic inside so I would probably also sit here
with my fiance to enjoy the calming view of the garden and sea.

Cereal Breaded Chicken Strips with Seven Spices
This dish is an instant champion!
I'm not kidding, this is an absolute must-try!
The crispy layer enveloping the juicy chicken strips is packed with fragrant spices,
giving you a whole lot of flavor!
Seriously appetizing.

Sze Chuan Bean Curd with Minced Beef

A Chinese classic dish with a twist!
Now with a delightful dose of Sze Chuan sauce all over the goodness of Tofu!

Wok Fried Nestum Cereal Prawns
The mild but fragrant taste of Nestum surprisingly compliments
and enhances the taste of these huge succulent prawns!
Mixed with some curry leaves and tiniest bit of chilli padi,
this is such a crowd pleaser!

Braised  Dried  Scallop with 'Chi Bau Ku' and Spinach
Something i have not tried before, and i'm pleasant surprised
that i took an instant liking to this dish.
Especially the sauce.
Not too salty, with  lots of scallops,
and delicious Katsuobushi (i think) flakes as the topping!

Hot and Sour Soup
A luxurious soup of vegetables.
Balanced flavors of both spicy and sour.
Since i'm still not a pro when it comes to spicy food,
(don't worry, I'm still training)
this dish had me feeling all warm and comfy inside
despite my initial fear when the waiter served this to me!

Deep Fried Yam Ring with Dice Chicken and Cashew Nuts

Healthy, yummy and filling!
Fresh vegetables stir fried and placed in the middle of this crispy yam bowl!

Another enjoyable place to eat is
Cafe Tatu
with a choice of outdoor dining if you prefer the sea breeze and sunshine,
or dine in the comforts of air conditioning (and be close to the buffet table ;p )

For a limited time only,
guests will enjoy the authentic pull noodles from Hunan, China
by Master Sun Xin!

Noodles in Chicken & Vegetable Soup Shanxi Style

The distinct taste of ginger that warms and comforts any hungry belly.
A healthy yet filling meal on its own.

Hubei Beef Soup Noodles

Pungent and aromatic, this dish is for those who love their food extremely flavorful.
Texture of the noodles are thick and slightly chewy.
As I'm so used to the local noodles which are very soft,
this is definitely a new culinary experience. Absolutely yum!

Freshly Made Coconut Pudding
And to sweet endings after so much delicious food,
I looked forward to this local delight.
Cold pudding with the sweetness and fragrance of coconuts,
this is THE dessert to have on a hot day!

I had a truly enjoyable (and extravagant) lunch
and I must say, this is definitely a place I would come more often now.

A really good place for intimate family dinners,
casual dates with loved ones,
or even a girl's day out!

I feel so lucky to be able to have such an amazing lunch
at Shang Palace & Cafe TATU with their equally amazing and friendly team.
Thank you for inviting me. Such an honor. :)

Injin Puput : Passage to the Heart of Borneo

I finally got the chance to join in the celebration of Sabah Fest!
After years of being blur, not knowing such an amazing festival existed
and also always missing it due to bad timing..
so being able to go and see this festival is truly a blessing!

Be amazed by their musical production as they tell you the story of Aki Arusap,
an old Murut warrior who had a premonition of the British arriving in Sabah decades ago.
He takes a trip down memory lane with his grandson Aaron, a city boy.
Rich with cultural dances, instrumental music and colorful traditional costumes,
it never fails to mesmerize me.

My favourite part of the performance?
The Murut's 'Warrior Dance' that involves them to dance over bamboo sticks
showing amazing agility and timing.

Aki Gounon and Mei Ling

Ampok Ampok Bulan

Bosilat Mandung Mandung
